Geriatric Physiotherapy

What is geriatric physiotherapy?

Geriatric rehabilitation covers three areas – normal aging due to disuse and deconditioning, cardiovascular problems like vascular disease and stroke, and skeletal problems including osteoporosis and osteoarthritis conditions such as knee and hip replacements.

Aged care physiotherapists commonly implement a range of treatment modalities aimed at either preventing deterioration or restoring function and activity levels, as well as keeping seniors happy and moving freely.

The geriatric assessment incorporates all facets of a conventional medical history, including main problem, current illness, past and current medical problems, family and social history, demographic data, and a review of systems.
